Job Overview
We are currently seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer with expertise in testing, commissioning, and protection of Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in protection relay testing, troubleshooting, and site execution within power distribution environments.
Key Responsibilities
The role involves installation, testing, and commissioning of various electrical power system components including MV/LV switchgear, power and distribution transformers, protection relays, current transformers (CTs), voltage transformers (VTs), and control and protection panels. Essential duties include:
- Performing thorough testing and commissioning of MV/LV switchgear, transformers, CTs, VTs, and protection relay systems.
- Executing protection relay testing for multiple protection functions and schemes to ensure reliable system operation.
- Troubleshooting electrical system faults, conducting root cause analysis, and identifying resolutions for issues related to switchgear, transformers, and protection relays.
- Preparing and reviewing technical documents such as method statements, non-conformance reports, incident reports, testing procedures, and root cause analyses.
- Supporting site planning and technical coordination activities alongside the Engineering and Project Managers.
- Delivering on-site training and technical demonstrations to client and operator personnel on newly commissioned electrical systems.
- Coordinating with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders during testing, commissioning, and energization activities.
- Adhering strictly to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) guidelines, client processes, and contractor requirements.
- Participating in energization, shutdown, isolation, and safety clearance procedures to maintain operational safety and compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. A minimum of three years’ practical experience in testing and commissioning MV/LV electrical systems is required, particularly within utilities or government sectors such as DEWA, ADDC, or relevant industrial projects. Strong expertise in protection relay testing is essential, including hands-on knowledge of protection functions like Overcurrent (OC), Earth Fault (EF), Differential, Distance, Under-Frequency, and Over/Under Voltage Protection schemes.
