Job Overview
We are looking for a dedicated Chemist to join our team in Saudi Arabia, specializing in sampling, laboratory testing, and chemical monitoring for steam and gas power plants and their auxiliary systems. The role involves ensuring water quality management for steam turbines, desalination, chlorination, demineralization plants, auxiliary boilers, and potable water systems. Additionally, you will be responsible for analyzing lubricants, fuels, and oils used in the plant to support operational efficiency and maintenance planning.
Key Responsibilities
As a Chemist, you will play an important role in maintaining the chemical integrity and performance of the plant through the following duties:
- Develop and implement sampling programs for seawater, wastewater, boiler water, and other water treatment systems.
- Conduct chemical and ion analyses to assess water quality and determine required additives to meet operational standards.
- Analyze environmental toxicants through sample collection and data evaluation.
- Monitor water treatment programs for boilers and provide expert advice on desalination and demineralization processes to manage scale formation.
- Manage testing of incoming gas and liquid fuels, including heating values, contaminants, and quality assessments.
- Periodically sample and analyze lubricants and fluids used in power plant equipment to predict maintenance needs based on wear indicators.
- Advise on chemical usage, inventory control, and safe handling procedures to optimize consumption and safety.
- Compile and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all chemicals in collaboration with industrial safety departments.
- Support other departments with chemical-related issues and recommend improvements or modifications in laboratory procedures.
- Assist in overseeing equipment procurement, maintenance, and calibration, including advanced instruments such as mass spectrometers and colorimeters.
- Ensure laboratory and work areas comply with safety standards and cleanliness for efficient operation.
- Prepare technical reports, maintain comprehensive logs, and communicate findings to supervisors and team members.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 5 to 9 years of relevant industrial experience, preferably within a Combined Cycle Power Plant.
- Proficiency in using and maintaining specialized laboratory instruments including Mass Spectrographic Analysis equipment and colorimeters.
- Strong knowledge of industrial chemical analysis standards and the ability to interpret quality and chemical reports effectively.
- Familiarity with various water categories and chemical analysis techniques is essential.
- Excellent supervisory and communication skills to lead laboratory teams and coordinate with other departments.
Work Environment
This position is based within a power plant setting where you will collaborate closely with engineering, safety, and operations teams. Compliance with strict safety protocols and proactive participation in safety meetings are mandatory.
