Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior GIS Engineer to lead and manage all phases of Geographic Information System projects in Riyadh. This role involves extensive planning, scheduling, coordination, and execution of GIS initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of GIS software, mapping, programming, and database management, applying these skills to innovative applications. Candidates should be prepared to supervise junior team members and occasionally serve as the GIS site coordinator. Willingness to travel or relocate to project locations when necessary is expected.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior GIS Engineer will develop detailed work plans and timelines for each phase of GIS projects, helping outline the scope, procedures, and schedules. Responsibilities include budget estimation, staffing allocation, and evaluation of hardware and software needs. This role also involves overseeing data collection from the field, screening relevant data sets, and designing GIS databases and analytical methods. The engineer will tailor and customize GIS systems to meet specific project goals, enhance automation processes, and conduct spatial analysis techniques such as interpolation and modeling.

Additional duties include integrating hardware, software, and data while assessing data precision and relevance. Troubleshooting complex system issues and ensuring quality control for GIS deliverables and team outputs are crucial. The position may also require supervising GIS specialists and technicians, supporting business development efforts, and producing client-ready deliverables in both digital and printed formats.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
• Deep knowledge of GIS software packages, mapping principles, programming, and database technologies.
• Proficiency in designing and maintaining GIS and related databases, including Microsoft Access and dBase.
• Strong leadership skills to guide and mentor junior GIS staff.
• Ability to develop and implement complex GIS applications tailored to project requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a clear understanding of industry practices.
• Preference will be given to native Arabic speakers.

Work Environment

The role requires collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and may involve travel or relocation to project sites within Saudi Arabia. The Senior GIS Engineer will often work on medium to large-scale projects, ensuring innovative GIS solutions align with client and company objectives.
