Job Overview

Southern Rock (SRC) is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The ideal candidate will have between 4 to 6 years of proven expertise in mechanical engineering, particularly within the Saudi Arabian or Gulf industrial sectors. This role focuses on supporting engineering, estimation, and execution activities for industrial projects, with an emphasis on Shutdowns, Turnarounds (TA), and maintenance operations in live plant environments.

Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will play an essential role in project execution and coordination by:

  • Providing technical support during estimation, project planning, shutdown/TA execution, and commissioning phases.
  • Reviewing and assisting in the preparation of technical documentation such as method statements, execution plans, proposals, and design submissions.
  • Participating in the planning, scheduling, and execution of shutdown and turnaround activities alongside onsite teams.
  • Coordinating efforts with cross-functional departments including Engineering, QA/QC, HSE, and Planning to ensure seamless project flow.
  • Conducting site surveys, material take-offs (MTO), and contributing to project estimation when required.
  • Ensuring all activities comply with client specifications, international standards, and project requirements.
  • Assisting the project team in troubleshooting technical challenges during execution, particularly within strict shutdown timelines.
  • Preparing and submitting detailed technical reports, progress updates, and documentation to stakeholders.
  • Monitoring project progress, identifying potential risks, and supporting timely completion of tasks.
  • Promoting and enforcing safe work practices adhering to HSE standards, especially during shutdown execution.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems, piping, and their integration with structural components.
  • Hands-on experience with Shutdowns/Turnarounds (TA), maintenance, or brownfield projects is highly desired.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and familiar with basic engineering software and tools.
  • Knowledge of project execution in operational industrial plants, preferably working with companies like SABIC, Saudi Aramco, or MA’ADEN.
  • Good grasp of international mechanical standards including ASME, API, and ISO.
  • Ability to manage on-site coordination and problem-solving under tight deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of materials, fabrication methods, and installation techniques.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Capacity to work efficiently under pressure, especially during critical shutdown periods.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience, preferably within Saudi Arabia or the GCC industrial market.
  • Experience in shutdown/turnaround projects or plant maintenance is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with client standards of SABIC, Saudi Aramco, or equivalent organizations.
  • Competence in MS Office applications and engineering software.
