Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Fit-Out Material Engineer to join our technical team based at a project site in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Reporting to the Technical Manager or Project Manager, this role focuses on reviewing, sourcing, and approving materials used in interior fit-out works to meet project specifications and quality standards. The engineer will play a pivotal role in coordinating procurement efforts while ensuring timely delivery and compliance with approved designs.

Key Responsibilities

The Fit-Out Material Engineer will be responsible for thorough review of project documentation such as specifications, BOQs, IFC drawings, and finish schedules. This includes preparing compliance statements and identifying any discrepancies that need clarification. The role involves evaluating a wide range of materials, including joinery, wooden doors, flooring, wall finishes, ceilings, partitions, stone, glass, mirrors, architectural metalwork, upholstery, and FF&E.

Ensuring materials meet performance requirements like fire resistance, acoustic standards, durability, moisture resistance, and environmental criteria is crucial. The engineer will propose alternative options with clear technical comparisons, cost implications, and delivery considerations when necessary.

Managing material submittals is another key duty, involving preparation and submission of approval requests alongside technical data sheets, samples, test reports, certificates, and warranties. Close coordination with suppliers and manufacturers is essential to gather accurate documentation and maintain an updated submittal register, tracking comments, resubmissions, and approvals.

The role also includes supplier assessment based on technical compliance, quality, lead times, and commercial viability. Preparing technical comparisons of supplier quotations and advising the procurement team accordingly are important tasks. Monitoring procurement timelines to align with the project schedule and supporting supplier inspections further ensure smooth material delivery and readiness.

Collaboration with QA/QC and site teams ensures delivered materials conform to approved standards and assist in resolving any quality or compliance issues. The engineer will oversee the proper storage, handling, and installation to protect material integrity on site.

Finally, maintaining organized documentation, such as approved materials records, certificates, supplier correspondence, and inspection reports, is vital for project handover. Gathering warranties and maintenance instructions for O&M manuals will support the closing phase of the project.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in material engineering or technical coordination specifically focused on interior fit-out projects.
  • Strong knowledge of interior finishing materials, installation methods, and related technical requirements.
