Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled SPMT Assistant Engineer to support the planning and execution of heavy lift and self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) operations. This role is vital for carrying out module transportation, load-out, and installation in large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects mainly across the Middle East. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, rigging, and logistics teams to ensure smooth and safe heavy transportation activities while adhering to client, engineering, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and coordinating SPMT operations for transporting heavy and oversized equipment.
- Support load calculations, including axle load distribution, stability analysis, and ground bearing pressure assessments.
- Conduct route surveys and site inspections to analyze access roads, turning radii, and potential obstacles.
- Contribute to preparing method statements, lift plans, and comprehensive risk assessments.
- Collaborate with project managers, rigging crews, and logistics personnel during project mobilization and transport phases.
- Monitor SPMT configurations, hydraulic leveling systems, and power pack performance to ensure operational efficiency.
- Ensure proper alignment and synchronization for the safe movement of heavy modules and structures.
- Assist troubleshooting efforts during transport and load transfer activities.
- Maintain strict compliance with local transport regulations and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
- Document project progress including engineering drawings, operation logs, and detailed reports.
- Facilitate communication with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities during critical operations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in heavy lift operations, heavy transport, or working specifically with SPMT systems.
- Understanding of load calculations, structural stability, and ground pressure principles.
- Familiarity with SPMT equipment such as Scheuerle, Goldhofer, or equivalent brands.
- Willingness to travel frequently and work on remote sites across the Middle East region.
