Job Overview
We are urgently seeking a skilled HVAC Engineer to join the team at SABIC Headquarters in Jubail. This role involves designing, overseeing, and maintaining HVAC systems for industrial process plants and hazardous environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in petrochemical or refinery settings and be proficient with international HVAC codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed HVAC Engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end design and engineering of HVAC systems, including chilled water units and air handling systems for process plants, control rooms, and classified hazardous zones. Duties extend to preparing technical specifications, datasheets, and managing equipment procurement through RFQs. In addition to design, the role requires supervision of system installation, testing, and commissioning while ensuring compliance with industry standards such as API, NFPA, ASHRAE, and Shell DEP.
Collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams is essential to integrate HVAC controls effectively, including BMS and PLC systems. The engineer will also develop and implement preventive maintenance programs, troubleshoot operational issues, and perform energy audits to recommend efficiency improvements.
Ensuring safety compliance according to OSHA, PSM, and HSE requirements is critical, especially for explosion-proof systems and hazardous area classifications. The role further involves vendor and stakeholder management, including evaluating supplier bids, witnessing factory acceptance tests, and securing necessary approvals from clients and regulatory bodies.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or HVAC Engineering.
- Over 10 years of HVAC engineering experience, preferably within petrochemical, refinery, or offshore industries.
- Proficient in HVAC design software such as Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, and AutoCAD.
- Strong knowledge of international standards including ASHRAE 15/34, NFPA 90A/91, and API 500/505.
- Hands-on experience with chilled water systems, DX units, pressurization, fire and smoke dampers, and gas detection integration.
- Expertise in BMS and PLC control systems.
- Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), ASHRAE, and ATEX/IECEx competency are highly desirable.
