Job Overview

Southern Rock (SRC) is seeking a skilled Mechanical / Structural Engineer with 5 to 6 years of experience specializing in the fabrication and erection of steel structures. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with clients to fully understand and translate their requirements into practical engineering solutions. This role involves close coordination between engineering, fabrication, and site teams to ensure smooth project execution.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and interpreting various engineering drawings, including general arrangement drawings (GADs), isometrics, and fabrication plans. Acting as the technical liaison among clients, engineering, and site teams, you will plan, supervise, and oversee the fabrication and erection of steel structures, pipe supports, and platforms. Ensuring adherence to approved plans, project specifications, and relevant standards is essential. Additionally, involvement in client meetings, technical discussions, and on-site inspections will be required to maintain alignment on project scope and execution strategies.

Other responsibilities include preparing and reviewing method statements, work procedures, and technical documentation. You will need to proactively identify and resolve technical challenges during fabrication and erection phases, monitor site progress to ensure timely completion, and coordinate closely with procurement and fabrication teams to manage materials and resources efficiently. Ensuring compliance with QA/QC standards, non-destructive testing (NDT) protocols, and strict health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures such as work permits and lockout-tagout (LOTO) is also mandatory.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• Five to six years of proven experience in industrial projects involving steel structure fabrication and erection.
• Strong technical expertise in steel fabrication techniques, structural systems, welding processes, and material inspections.
• Proficient in interpreting project drawings and understanding project scopes comprehensively.
• Excellent client interaction skills to accurately capture requirements and translate them into practical plans.
• Experience in site execution and real-time resolution of technical issues during projects.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Knowledge of QA/QC processes, inspection protocols, and NDT procedures.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and MS Office software tools.
• Strong communication and coordination abilities to manage cross-functional teams.
• Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently.
• Proactive problem-solving mindset and attention to detail.
