Job Overview

Southern Rock (SRC) is seeking an experienced Mechanical / Structural Engineer based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The ideal candidate will have a solid technical background in the fabrication and erection of steel structures, along with excellent client management and coordination skills. This role involves interpreting client requirements, preparing execution strategies, and ensuring smooth collaboration between engineering, fabrication, and site teams.

Key Responsibilities

The engineer will be responsible for reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings such as GADs, isometric, and fabrication plans, as well as project specifications. A strong emphasis will be placed on understanding client needs and providing technical solutions and clarifications. Acting as the technical liaison between clients, engineering teams, and site crews is essential.

Additional duties include supervising the fabrication and erection of steel structures, pipe supports, and platforms, ensuring all activities comply with approved drawings and industry standards. Participation in client meetings, conducting site visits, preparing method statements, and reviewing technical submissions are also key aspects of the role.

The candidate must proactively identify and resolve technical issues during on-site fabrication and erection, monitor project progress, and coordinate material and resources with the procurement and fabrication departments. Adherence to QA/QC standards, non-destructive testing (NDT), and health and safety procedures is mandatory.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering (or an equivalent field) and possess 5 to 6 years of hands-on experience with steel structure fabrication and erection in industrial projects. A deep understanding of structural systems, welding principles, materials, and inspection processes is critical for success.

Strong analytical skills to interpret project scopes and drawings accurately are essential. The candidate must demonstrate effective communication skills to manage client expectations and translate their requirements into actionable plans. Experience in on-site execution and troubleshooting real-time engineering challenges is highly valued.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with QA/QC protocols, NDT techniques, and inspection standards will be advantageous. Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office applications is expected, alongside strong organizational and coordination capabilities.

The successful candidate will be able to perform well under pressure, meet strict deadlines, and approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset.
