Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Assistant Manager in Human Resources to oversee HR operations across multiple locations in India. This role demands comprehensive management of payroll, statutory compliance, labour laws, HR analytics, employee relations, and workforce cost forecasting. The position requires consistent coordination with project sites, plants, warehouses, and regional offices, involving 40–60% travel.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Manager – HR will handle the end-to-end payroll process across various locations, ensuring compliance with PF, ESI, PT, TDS, Gratuity, Bonus, CLRA, Labour Welfare Fund, and other statutory regulations. Managing attendance, leave records, employee lifecycle activities, HRIS, and proper documentation are critical functions. The role also involves conducting HR and statutory audits, preparing detailed HR MIS reports, dashboards, and management summaries. A strong focus will be placed on analysing headcount, attrition, absenteeism, payroll expenses, and workforce trends. Additionally, the role includes preparing HR budgets, forecasting manpower costs, and supporting workforce planning for cost efficiency. Handling employee grievances, disciplinary issues, and maintaining positive employee relations are also part of the responsibilities. Coordination with site leadership and contractor workforce, conducting periodic site HR and compliance audits, and driving process standardization and continuous improvement complete the scope of this role.

Required Skills and Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of Indian Labour Laws and statutory compliances
  • Proven experience in payroll and HR operations management
  • Expertise in managing PF, ESI, PT, TDS, Gratuity, Bonus, CLRA, and Shops & Establishment regulations
  • Strong skills in HR analytics, MIS reporting, and dashboard creation
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data visualization
  • Hands-on experience with HRMS and payroll software systems
  • Competent in budgeting, workforce planning, and manpower cost forecasting
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management capabilities
  • High degree of attention to detail and focus on compliance
  • Willingness to travel extensively across India to support business needs

Educational and Industry Background

Candidates should hold an MBA or PGDM in HR, Personnel Management, or Industrial Relations, although a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline will also be considered. Preference will be given to professionals with industry experience in steel manufacturing, heavy engineering, EPC/industrial construction, fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial services. Experience managing diverse workforces, including both blue-collar and white-collar employees across several locations, is a significant advantage.
