Job Overview
We are urgently seeking a dedicated Safety Officer with strong experience in mining projects to join our team in Saudi Arabia. This role focuses on maintaining and enhancing health and safety standards across mining, drilling, blasting, crushing, hauling, workshop, and camp environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with company policies, client protocols, and Saudi regulatory requirements while promoting a proactive safety culture on site.
Key Responsibilities
The Safety Officer will conduct daily inspections across mining and associated operational areas, identifying hazards and unsafe conditions. They will support risk assessments, oversee job safety analyses, and manage permit-to-work procedures for high-risk activities. Ensuring correct usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safe working protocols is vital. The role includes delivering safety inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions for both employees and contractors.
Investigations of incidents, near misses, and property damage must be carried out with detailed reporting and follow-up on corrective actions. Maintaining health and safety records, including inspection logs, training documentation, and incident reports, is essential. The Safety Officer will verify emergency preparedness, managing first aid capabilities, rescue readiness, and firefighting resources.
Coordination with site supervisors, maintenance teams, and subcontractors is required to resolve safety observations promptly. Monitoring traffic safety, mobile equipment handling, lifting operations, confined space entry, work at heights, electrical hazards, and explosive materials is part of the daily routine. They have the authority to halt unsafe work and escalate serious risks to management immediately.
Additionally, the role involves participation in internal safety audits, client inspections, and regulatory visits to ensure continuous compliance and improvement.
Duties Specific to Mining Projects
This position requires expertise in managing high-risk activities typical to mining operations, including open-pit and underground work, drill and blast operations, and interaction with heavy mobile machinery. The Safety Officer will handle exposure risks such as dust, noise, vibration, and heat stress, while overseeing hazardous storage areas for fuels, chemicals, and explosives. Emergency response planning for remote sites and managing contractor workforces across multiple shifts are key components.
Compliance with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources regulations, alongside labor and occupational safety laws, is mandatory.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should hold a diploma or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional safety certifications like NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent are highly desirable. Additional training in first aid, fire safety, incident investigation, and specific mining safety courses will be considered an advantage.
A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in industrial or heavy equipment environments is required, with at least 2-3 years working within mining, quarry, drilling, blasting, crusher, or mineral processing settings. Experience in Saudi Arabia or the wider GCC region is strongly preferred. Familiarity with contractor management, remote locations, and multicultural teams is beneficial.
