Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated HSE Officer to oversee health, safety, and environmental standards within catering and accommodation operations in a camp setting. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with legal, client, and company requirements while maintaining a safe and hygienic living and dining environment for residents and staff alike.

Key Responsibilities

The HSE Officer will be responsible for implementing and supervising HSE and food safety protocols. This includes conducting regular inspections and risk assessments in accommodation units, kitchens, dining areas, and utility spaces. The role requires identifying hazards, managing noncompliance reports, investigating incidents, and coordinating corrective actions.

Additionally, the officer will uphold rigorous food safety standards by auditing kitchen practices, ensuring proper food handling, storage, and preparation, and maintaining all relevant documentation such as temperature records and pest control logs. Supporting ongoing training initiatives to enhance food hygiene and safety awareness among catering personnel is also essential.

Accommodation safety duties involve inspecting fire protection systems, potable water supply, emergency exits, and waste disposal systems. The officer will monitor hygiene conditions in support areas such as laundry, medical facilities, and recreational spaces. Organizing fire drills and emergency response exercises will further ensure readiness and strengthen camp welfare.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, food safety standards, and accommodation safety in camp environments
• Proficient in conducting inspections, risk assessments, and root cause analysis
• Experience in developing and delivering training sessions to diverse teams
• Detail-oriented with excellent reporting and documentation skills using MS Office
• Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with various stakeholders
• Resilient and comfortable working under pressure and in challenging environments

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should hold a diploma or degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Food Safety, or a related discipline. Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, HACCP Level 3, or ISO 22000 are required, with additional certifications in fire safety and first aid considered advantageous.

A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in HSE roles within catering, accommodation, or remote camp operations is preferred. Proven expertise in food safety compliance, hygiene auditing, incident reporting, and emergency response is essential for success in this role.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role involves routine inspections that may require walking long distances, climbing stairs or ladders, and accessing confined or elevated areas. The candidate must be prepared to work outdoors in hot climates and may need to respond to emergencies outside regular working hours.
