Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Safety Officer to join our team on a 6-month contract, with potential for extension, based in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar. This role focuses on supporting health, safety, and environmental compliance for brownfield projects within operating LNG, refinery, petrochemical, or gas processing facilities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe execution of plant modifications, shutdowns, maintenance, and expansion projects. This includes enforcing critical safety procedures such as permit to work (PTW) and simultaneous operations (SIMOPS), supervising high-risk activities, and supporting emergency response efforts. Monitoring activities like hot work, confined space entry, working at height, lifting operations, excavation, line breaking, pressure testing, and chemical handling are integral to this position.

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least 6 years of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) experience in the oil and gas sector, specifically with brownfield projects
  • Practical experience working in live operating environments including LNG, refinery, petrochemical, or gas processing plants
  • Familiarity with PTW, SIMOPS, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Hazard Identification (HAZID), Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and various risk assessment techniques
  • Proven ability to closely monitor and manage high-risk operations to maintain a safe work environment
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures, gas testing, and incident investigation
  • Understanding of QatarEnergy HSE procedures is highly advantageous
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate is mandatory; additional certifications like IOSH are a plus

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with prior experience working with leading organizations such as QatarEnergy, Ras Laffan LNG, Mesaieed, QAFCO, or Q-Chem will be given preference. Possession of relevant experience certificates and up-to-date HSE qualifications is strongly desired.

Work Environment

This contract role involves working in a dynamic and operationally sensitive environment at Ras Laffan Industrial City, Oman. The Safety Officer must maintain a proactive approach to hazard management while adapting to the challenges of brownfield project settings within live industrial facilities.
