Job Title: Procurement Engineer
Department: Procurement / Supply Chain / Engineering
Reports To: Procurement Manager / Supply Chain Manager / Project Manager
Job Summary
A Procurement Engineer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and purchasing technical equipment, materials, and services required for engineering projects while ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery. The role combines technical knowledge with procurement and vendor management skills.
Key Responsibilities
1. Procurement & Sourcing
Identify and source suppliers for engineering materials, equipment, and services.
Prepare RFQs (Request for Quotations), RFPs, and tender documents.
Evaluate vendor quotations based on technical specifications, price, and delivery terms.
Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery schedules.
2. Technical Evaluation
Review technical specifications and drawings from engineering teams.
Conduct technical bid evaluations to ensure supplier compliance.
Coordinate with engineering and project teams for material approvals.
3. Vendor Management
Identify and qualify new vendors and suppliers.
Maintain supplier relationships and monitor vendor performance.
Conduct supplier audits and performance reviews.
4. Cost Optimization
Analyze market trends and pricing.
Develop strategies to reduce procurement costs without compromising quality.
Perform cost comparison and value engineering.
5. Purchase Order Management
Prepare and issue Purchase Orders (POs).
Track order status to ensure on-time delivery.
Resolve delivery delays and procurement issues.
6. Coordination & Documentation
Coordinate with engineering, quality, logistics, and finance teams.
Maintain procurement records, contracts, and supplier documentation.
Ensure compliance with company policies and project requirements.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Industrial).
Additional certification in Supply Chain or Procurement is an advantage.
Required Skills
Strong technical understanding of engineering materials/equipment
Negotiation and vendor management
Knowledge of procurement processes and contracts
Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
Cost analysis and budgeting
Strong communication and analytical skills
Experience
Typically 2–8 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain within engineering, manufacturing, or construction industries.
