Job Overview
We are urgently looking for a skilled HVAC Engineer to join our team in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. This role involves designing, executing, and maintaining HVAC systems specifically for industrial environments such as process plants, control rooms, and hazardous zones compliant with ATEX/IECEx standards. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in petrochemical or refinery settings and a strong technical background to ensure efficient and safe HVAC operations.
Key Responsibilities
The HVAC Engineer will be responsible for:
- Designing industrial HVAC systems, including chilled water and pressurization systems tailored for process plants and hazardous areas.
- Preparing detailed technical specifications, datasheets, and requests for quotations (RFQs) for HVAC equipment such as chillers, air handling units (AHUs), and exhaust systems.
- Reviewing P&ID drawings, duct layouts, and HVAC control schematics for seamless Building Management System (BMS) integration.
- Supervising the installation, testing, and commissioning phases to ensure compliance with industry standards including API, NFPA, ASHRAE, and Shell DEP.
- Collaborating closely with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams for effective system integration.
- Developing and managing preventive maintenance programs to enhance reliability and performance of critical HVAC components.
- Identifying and resolving operational issues such as airflow imbalances, refrigerant leaks, and control system failures.
- Conducting energy audits to recommend efficiency improvements using technologies like Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and heat recovery systems.
- Ensuring strict adherence to OSHA, PSM, and HSE regulations, especially for HVAC systems in petrochemical plants.
- Verifying explosion-proof compliance in hazardous classified zones and reviewing ventilation requirements based on hazard classifications.
- Handling vendor communications, evaluating supplier proposals, participating in technical bid evaluations, and witnessing factory acceptance tests.
- Liaising with clients, contractors, and authorities to secure necessary approvals and maintain project standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or HVAC Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in HVAC engineering with exposure to petrochemical, refinery, or offshore projects.
- Strong practical knowledge of chilled water systems, direct expansion (DX) units, pressurization techniques, and integration with BMS/PLC control systems.
- Familiarity with fire/smoke dampers and gas detection system integration.
- Proficiency in HVAC design software such as Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, and AutoCAD.
- Well-versed in international codes and standards including ASHRAE 15/34 for refrigeration safety, NFPA 90A/91 for fire safety, and API 500/505 for hazardous area classification.
- Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) license, ASHRAE certifications, and competency in ATEX/IECEx for hazardous areas are preferred.
