Job Overview

The National Maritime Academy is seeking an experienced IT Support and Research Specialist to design, develop, and maintain its IT infrastructure. This role involves both back-end and front-end development, with a focus on supporting the academy’s digital platforms while enhancing overall IT operations. The ideal candidate will bring innovative solutions that improve system performance and user experience.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will handle a variety of technical assignments including:

• Developing and managing WordPress themes and plugins to enhance website functionality.
• Designing new features and implementing responsive website designs.
• Overseeing website architecture to ensure optimum performance and availability.
• Maintaining the content management system (CMS) and related technical components.
• Regularly assessing and upgrading IT infrastructure to meet evolving requirements.
• Creating IT procedures that boost efficiency, streamline workflows, and improve team satisfaction.
• Coordinating IT support across local and remote staff, vendors, and contractors.
• Ensuring data security through encryption, secure storage, and other protection measures.
• Installing new hardware and software while providing user training on technology tools.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field.
• Proficient in front-end technologies such as 5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.
• Experience in creating responsive web designs and converting wireframes into functional pages.
• Ability to work with RESTful APIs and data formats including and XML.
• Familiarity with debugging tools like Firebug or Chrome Inspector.
• Strong understanding of PHP for back-end development.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git, SVN, or Mercurial.
• Good knowledge of IT hardware, networking, and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with fluency in written and spoken English (minimum IELTS 6.0).

Other related duties may be assigned as needed to support the Academy’s operations.
