Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Procurement Officer to oversee the sourcing and purchasing of building materials, handling both international imports and local suppliers. This opportunity is ideal for professionals with at least three years’ experience in procurement within the construction, contracting, or building materials sectors in Bahrain or the GCC region.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing supplier relationships, negotiating competitive prices, placing purchase orders, coordinating import logistics, and ensuring timely delivery of materials to support ongoing projects.

Key Responsibilities

The Procurement Officer will manage the full procurement cycle for building and construction materials from both local and global suppliers. Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and sourcing materials that meet project specifications, quality standards, and delivery timelines.
  • Evaluating and developing a reliable network of local and overseas suppliers.
  • Obtaining, comparing, and negotiating quotes, prices, payment terms, and other commercial conditions.
  • Issuing purchase orders in line with company policies and approved budgets.
  • Coordinating international shipments, managing supplier communication, shipping documentation, customs clearance, and delivery follow-up.
  • Working closely with freight forwarders, clearing agents, transporters, warehouses, and local suppliers to ensure smooth receipt of materials.
  • Monitoring market trends, pricing fluctuations, availability, and lead times for building materials.
  • Ensuring all purchased materials conform to required quality, quantity, and delivery requirements.
  • Tracking outstanding orders and resolving any issues related to delays, shortages, or damaged goods.
  • Maintaining detailed procurement records including quotations, purchase orders, invoices, and import documentation.
  • Evaluating supplier performance regularly and identifying opportunities to optimize costs and sourcing strategies.
  • Collaborating with project, warehouse, finance, and management teams to align procurement activities with operational needs.
  • Supporting inventory management by helping maintain optimal stock levels, avoiding overstocking or shortages.
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements within Bahrain.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of procurement experience specifically in building materials, with a strong preference for background in construction, contracting, or trading industries.
  • Proven expertise in handling both international import processes and local purchasing.
  • Solid knowledge of various building materials including steel, cement, blocks, tiles, sanitaryware, plumbing and electrical supplies, hardware, and related tools.
  • Familiarity with import regulations, shipping documentation, customs clearance procedures, and logistics coordination.
  • Strong negotiation skills to secure favourable pricing, terms, and supplier agreements.
  • Good understanding of supplier markets in Bahrain and the wider GCC region is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and follow-up capabilities.
  • Ability to analyze costs, compare market prices, and make informed procurement decisions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, and experience with procurement or ERP systems.
  • Capable of working under pressure while managing multiple procurement requirements efficiently.
  • Holding a valid Bahrain driving license is a plus.
  • Fluent in English, with Arabic language skills regarded as an advantage.

Preferred Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess strong existing supplier contacts both locally and internationally, have an in-depth understanding of the building materials industry, and the ability to independently manage procurement from supplier selection through to delivery at site or warehouse. A detail-oriented professional with excellent negotiation skills and a proactive approach to supply chain challenges is preferred.
