Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with expertise in HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and firefighting systems to join our team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The ideal candidate will oversee installation, review engineering drawings, coordinate with various teams, and ensure all systems meet project specifications and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for reviewing mechanical drawings and specifications, raising RFIs on any discrepancies before work commences on site. Preparation and follow-up of material submittals, method statements, and inspection and test plans leading to consultant approvals are integral parts of the role. Additionally, marking up shop drawings and verifying installed work against approved revisions are required.

In HVAC systems, the engineer will supervise installation activities covering ductwork, insulation, dampers, diffusers, FCUs, AHUs, split and VRF units, chilled water pipework, pumps, and valves. Ensuring proper verification of duct routes, levels, and access clearances to avoid clashes ahead of installation is critical. Fire damper installation must comply with fire-rated penetration requirements and integrate correctly with fire alarm panels. The role involves managing duct leakage testing and air and water balancing while verifying the accuracy of reports.

For plumbing and drainage, the engineer will oversee installation of potable and hot water systems, drainage pipework, risers, pumps, tanks, and sanitary fixtures. Verifying pipe dimensions, slopes, supports, and venting are compliant with approved drawings and the Saudi Building Code is essential. The engineer will also manage pressure and drainage water testing, flushing, disinfection and document all results.

The firefighting system scope includes supervision of sprinkler networks, standpipes, hose reels, fire pumps, and associated pipework and valves. The engineer must ensure sprinkler coverage and spacing meet approved hydraulic designs and NFPA hazard classifications. They will also prepare for Civil Defence inspections and coordinate integrated system testing with fire alarm and HVAC systems.

The role involves planning and witnessing all pre-handover tests, ensuring contractors meet specified pressures, durations, and acceptance criteria. Managing trial operations, addressing snag lists, and compiling comprehensive handover documentation such as test records, as-built drawings, warranties, and operation and maintenance manuals are essential tasks.

Coordination with electrical and civil teams, subcontractors, and suppliers on a daily basis is expected to address interface challenges early and in writing. Maintaining accurate records of executed quantities to support payment applications and reporting material shortfalls and program risks are important for smooth project progress. Any factors impacting project time or costs must be reported promptly to the Project Manager.

  • Strong ability to review and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
