Job Overview
Southern Rock (SRC) is currently seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with 4 to 6 years of professional experience, ideally within Saudi Arabia or the Gulf region. This role involves supporting engineering, estimation, and execution tasks across a variety of industrial projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in shutdowns, turnarounds, and maintenance within live plant environments, demonstrating the technical expertise and coordination abilities needed to ensure successful project completion.
Key Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineer will play a crucial role throughout project phases, including estimation, planning, shutdown execution, and commissioning. Responsibilities include:
- Providing technical support and effective coordination during all project stages.
- Reviewing and assisting in the preparation of method statements, execution plans, proposals, and design documents.
- Engaging in shutdown and turnaround planning, scheduling, and onsite execution alongside field teams.
- Coordinating with multiple departments such as Engineering, QA/QC, HSE, and Planning to ensure streamlined operations.
- Performing site surveys, material take-offs, and supporting estimation tasks as needed.
- Ensuring all work adheres to client specifications, international codes, and project requirements.
- Resolving technical issues promptly, particularly during critical shutdown periods.
- Preparing detailed technical reports, progress updates, and documentation for stakeholders.
- Monitoring project timelines, identifying potential risks, and supporting timely completion.
- Promoting and maintaining safety standards in line with HSE policies, especially during shutdown activities.
Required Skills and Competencies
The successful candidate will possess:
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, piping, and structural interfaces.
- Experience in shutdowns, turnarounds, maintenance, or brownfield projects is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and familiarity with basic engineering software tools.
- Understanding of live industrial plant environments, ideally with exposure to clients like SABIC, Aramco, or Ma’aden.
- Strong grasp of international standards including ASME, API, and ISO.
- Excellent site coordination, problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle fast-track project demands.
- Solid knowledge of materials, fabrication techniques, and installation practices.
- Effective communication and teamwork capabilities.
- Ability to perform well under pressure, particularly during tight shutdown schedules.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- A minimum of 4 to 6 years of relevant experience, preferably within Saudi Arabia or the GCC region’s industrial sector.
- Experience working on shutdown or turnaround projects, or in plant maintenance environments, is a definite advantage.
- Familiarity with standards and procedures of clients such as SABIC and Saudi Aramco.
- Proficiency in MS Office and other standard engineering software.
